A date like 03/04/2025 is March in one country and April in another. Guess wrong on a single row and a whole statement sorts into the wrong order, which is the kind of error that survives all the way into a tax return.
The format is worked out once per document from the dates on the page. A statement that includes a day past the twelfth settles the question outright, and the choice then holds for every row so the file is consistent with itself.
