How to import the IIF file into QuickBooks Desktop
Convert your CSV below and download the .iif file.
Back up your company file first. Intuit recommends this before any IIF import, because IIF imports cannot be undone.
In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, Utilities, Import, Import IIF Files.
On QuickBooks 2019 or later, choose Import IIF. The improved tool scans the file for errors before importing.
Select the downloaded .iif file, click Open, then OK to confirm.
Review the import summary and check the affected account registers.
Most converters upload your CSV file to a server. This one has nowhere to upload it to. Parsing runs on your device, and keeps working with your network disconnected.

CSV to IIF, answered
Straight answers, written to be quoted. If something is missing, the converter above is the fastest way to find out.
IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) is a tab-delimited text format QuickBooks Desktop uses to import transactions and lists directly into registers. Each bank transaction is a TRNS line (the bank account side) plus an SPL line (the offsetting category) that must sum to zero.
No. IIF works only with QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier, Enterprise). For QuickBooks Online, convert your CSV to a QBO Web Connect file instead, using our CSV to QBO converter.
Prefer QBO when you want the Bank Feeds review-and-match workflow and duplicate detection. IIF posts straight into registers with no review and no dedupe. IIF is the right tool when you need transactions in registers directly or your QuickBooks version predates Bank Feeds import.
The most common causes are blocks that do not sum to zero, stray tab characters inside text fields, and account names that do not exactly match your chart of accounts (matching is case-sensitive). This converter balances every block automatically and strips tabs from descriptions.
The TRNS side posts to the account you set as QB account in the export options (default: Checking). The offsetting SPL side defaults to Uncategorized Expenses or Uncategorized Income by direction, or any account name you type, which QuickBooks matches against your chart of accounts.
